Hyp from Paris Eternal Retires from the Overwatch League

Damien "HyP" Souville, flex healer for Paris Eternal, announced his retirement through Twitter.

As the Overwatch League is switching to a full online mode, its teams are all trying to find their place among the chaos. The first change came with Los Angeles Valiant, who released two members of their coaching staff due to economical constraints. Today, it is time for Paris Eternal to lose a player - and not any player.

Damien "HyP" Souville has been Paris Eternal’s flex healer since the team creation, back in 2018. He formed an iconic support duo with Harrison “Kruise” Pond, backed up by Luís "Greyy" Perestrelo. Despite mixed results and a 14th place on the Overwatch League, Paris Eternal did make an impression and Souville was no stranger to this.

In 2019, Souville took part of the Overwatch World Cup with Team France. The French ended up in the 4th position, losing the bronze medal to reigning champions of Team South Korea.

For this Overwatch League 2020 Season, Paris Eternal recruited one more support player: Brice "FDGod" Monsçavoir. Despite having a new competitor in the team, Souville kept his place in the main roster, often playing with Monsçavoir as an off-healer.

Retirement Announcement

Today, Souville announced on Twitter his decision to leave both Paris Eternal and the Overwatch League. “I took the decision to stop my Overwatch career and therefore quit Paris Eternal and the Overwatch League,” he wrote on Twitter. “It was a very complicated choice to make, surely the hardest one I had to take in my life but the most important thing is that this decision is the best for me, for my well-being and my health.”

In his message, Souville said he was stopping his Overwatch career - not his entire esports career. Will he join another game, such as the long-awaited Valorant? The hype around Riot Games new FPS is rising every day. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Souville working in the esports industry, but we will have to wait to know more about his future endeavors.
